SRI LANKA






                                                                                               The island of Sri Lanka be aloft the Indian tectonic plate, a minor plate within the Indo-Austrailan plate. It is positioned in the Indian Ocean, to the southwest of the Bay of Bengal between latitudes 5º and 10ºN, and longitudes 79º and 82ºE.Sri Lanka separated from the Indian subcontinent by the Gulf of mannarand the Palk Strait
                                              The island consists of mostly of flat-to-rolling coastal plains, with mountains rising only in the south-central part. Amongst these is the highest point pidurutalagala, reaching 2,254 metres (8,281) above sea level. The climate of Sri Lanka can be described as tropical and warm. Its position endows the country with a warm climate moderated by ocean winds and considerable moisture. The mean temperature ranges from above 17˚C (62.7˚F) in the central highlands, where frost may occur for several days in the winter, to a maximum of approximately 33˚C (91.4 ˚F) in order low-altitude areas. The average yearly temperature ranges from 28˚C (82.4˚F) to nearly 31˚C (87.8˚F). Day and night temperatures may vary by 14˚C (25.2˚F) to 18˚C (32.4˚F)


Kandy

The Kandy city is located  in upcountry in Sri Lanka. There are many beautiful places in Kandy. Kandy is also the venue of the ESALA PERAHERA, easily the most colorful   pageant of Asia, held in July/August each year, in honour of the tooth Relic. As the pagentry  of  ESALA PERAHERA  unfolds through ten night each year, the city takes on the air of a torch-lit dreamland, complete with a hundred or more colourfully caparisoned elephants, drummers, dancers, and chieftains in the rare  colourful trappings of the past kingdom.

 






Sigiriya

Sigiriya in fact, should have been classed as one of the wonders of the Ancient World, long ago, and there is now proposal to name it as the Eighth Wonder of the world, perhaps, it is better late than never. Sri Lanka’s ancient architectural tradition is well portrayed at sigiriya ,the best preserved city center in Asia from the first millennium, with this combination of buildings and gardens with their trees, pathway, water gardens, the fusion of symmetrical and symmetrical element, use of varying levels and of axis and radial planning. Hikkaduwa


                                               98km. south of Colombo, Hikkaduwa is the place for underwater delight. Site of the famed coral gardens, hire a glass bottomed boat or goggles and flippers and explore the fantasies under your feet. Don’t purchase or encourage sale of corals

                                                                   16km. south of Colombo, is the most southern town with an  old-world charm. Believed to be the “Tarshish” of the Bible, its nature harbor was a famous fort in days gone by. Famous for its Dutch fort, lace making, ebony carving and gem polishing.






Sri Lankan Elephant

 

 

 

 

 

According to estimated , there are 2,500to 3000 elephant in Sri Lanka, and  about 500 of them are tame, and are used for work. Elephant is the star of Sri Lanka’s wild life and the largest animal in the island .Among the tow verities of African elephant and Indian elephant in Sri Lanka you find Indian elephants and considered to be intelligent than their African counterparts hence domesticated.

There are lots of plants and animal species fund in the sri lankan national parks. There are 31 species of mammals out of which the elephants are the most cherished and accepted by the tourist. You can also come across a range of other kind like the mouse, shrew and mongoose. Also you can find colorful bird species that includes eagles, owls, kites buzzards etc.
Though January to May is the peak season when this sri lankan national parks aremost visit but it can be also visited in the months of October even. There are special tours organized by the sri lankan government who takes the visitors for exploring the wildlife of the sri lankan national parks








The best time to go to Sri Lanka for travelers is April to June .because at this time Sri Lanka has some big festivals, good climate ,has lot of fruits and  flowers  everywhere and many more. If you need city life you need to stay in Colombo kandy ,but if you need village life you can go to southern cities like Galla or northern cities like Anuradapura
